I am not a counsellor but provide the admin support for the Rainbow counsellors. I have benefited from counselling myself on more than one occasion and understand how difficult it can be to make that first move towards seeking help. If you are unsure about which counsellor would be best for you I may be able to help you.

My main job is as a freelance environmental consultant based in Sheffield. I have worked in environmental management for the past seven years, prior to which I worked in fundraising and spent time travelling and studying. I have family ties to Rainbow and enjoy being involved in something so important which is a bit different from my normal work. Like all the Rainbow counsellors I am a practising Christian.

My experience as a counsellor has involved helping clients deal with a wide spectrum of life's difficulties. I am accredited and registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy ( BACP) and I am also qualified to supervise other counsellors' work.

Most of my experience has been gained working for the NHS for eight years in GP surgeries and also a Women's Health Clinic which included hormonal and sexual issues. I have worked as an associate lecturer in a university setting in the area of Personal Development and also helped many with faith and spiritual problems.

My way of working includes mainly the Carl Rogers person-centred model, with psychodynamic principles taken from psychotherapy, and cognitive behavioural therapy. This may mean only one or two sessions or longer term work according to your particular needs.

Jacky, together with Sue, is a founder member of Rainbow Counselling. She has retired from counselling and supervision in order to give more time to her work in spiritual accompaniment and the work of Whirlow Grange Spirituality Centre. She remains with the team as mentor and adviser and will also continue to do consultations on the Myers Briggs Type Indicator - a test which helps in self understanding and in working in partnerships and teams.

My approach is very simple. I believe that therapy is about the client and counsellor working together to help the client achieve his / her goal. Having worked with a lot of different organisations, I am learning a lot about life's challenges and how different people cope.

I have worked with asylum seekers, addicts, prisoners, couples, children, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transexual people, and children in homes, amongst others. These people have all taught me a lot about life, and, what a difference counselling and a positive attitude can make.

Sometimes we go through a period where we need to talk to someone and our friends and family are not enough. We need to talk to someone who is skilled in listening and supporting you to make that decision, or help you go through a rough period in your life. My background is in psychology and counselling, and I am currently reading a MSc in Sexual and Relationship Psychotherapy. I am also a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, and British Psychological Society.

I specialise in working with couples, addiction and people who are having issues around their sexuality. I also work with children from age 10.

Days available: Saturday and Tuesdays (all day)

Amanda Georgiou
Amanda Georgiou (Tel: 07908 709791)
My background is in psychology, research and public health where I have a longstanding interest in psychological therapies. I completed my Diploma at Sheffield Hallam University in 2004. I have also studied the CWR model of Christian Counselling.

I am a member of both the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the Association of Christian Counsellors (ACC) and abide by their respective code of ethics. I am an accredited counsellor with BACP.

I offer a safe, confidential, trusting and supportive space to explore whatever issues and difficulties you feel are important to you. The approach I take is 'integrative', placing the relationship with my client at the centre and applying specific approaches when the need arises (e.g. CBT, existential, Gestalt approaches etc.). I don't give specific advice but will work with you to find the best way forward towards a positive and healthy future.

My experience of counselling covers a range of areas including bereavement and loss, posttraumatic stress, depression, anxiety, relationships and self-esteem. I can work with you for just a few sessions or on a longer term basis. I also offer counselling supervision.

Do you want to make some changes in your life, but feel unsure how to go about it? One to one counselling with a qualified counsellor from Rainbow (Doncaster branch) may help you to move forward.

My approach is integrative, working from a person centred base but incorporating elements from:
  • CBT (especially Brief Interventions and Substance Misuse Work) I have 7 years of experience working with Alcohol Dependency)
  • Gestalt: a holistic and existential method that works to help with "unfinished business"
NB My base accredited training was in CBT based Substance Misuse and I have completed a foundation year in Gestalt Psychotherapy.

I offer an individual, creative approach that will involve you fully in the process, paying attention to the integration of mind, body and spirit. I am a member of my local Church of England (Doncaster) although my training has mainly been in the secular counselling world. I am a wife and the mother of 3 young people (two currently at university).

In addition to an MA in counselling, I am also a qualified teacher of adults. I am a member of the Institute for Learning and of the BACP. I believe in working respectfully with you on whatever is troubling you, and in paying attention to the unique perspective that you have on life, whether you belong to a faith/creed or not. I look forward to meeting you.

Appointments will usually be held in Doncaster. I also offer Supervision for counsellors.

I have completed the CWR Diploma in Christian Counselling and use an integrative model of counselling incorporating elements of CBT, person-centred, psychodynamic therapy and spirituality where appropriate. I am a member of the Association of Christian Counsellors.

I work with clients from any background without prejudice and am passionate about the value and benefits of counselling. I have supplemented my training with courses on addiction, bereavement, grief and CBT, and I have experience working for the NHS in the area of smoking cessation using an evidence based structured programme. I am particularly interested in the area of bereavement and grief.

I think the most important thing about counselling is having a safe relaxed space to look at areas of concern in a constructive way.

I am available the evenings in Walkley.

I am a qualified counsellor with a counselling diploma from Sheffield Hallam University and have experience working with people of a wide range of ages, backgrounds, and issues including depression, poor self-esteem, bereavement, work-related stress, addictions, family/relationship problems and so on.

Having been born and raised outside the UK, I can bring a particularly empathetic approach to those from other cultures and backgrounds who feel marginalised in any way.

I am an integrative counsellor, which means that I employ various methods of therapy depending on what best suits the individual client's needs.

At the moment I am pursuing research into creative methods of therapy such as working with drawing, sandtray, figures, and pictures. These can be effective and powerful means of reaching deep seated issues, although of course they are only one of many approaches that I use with my clients.

As a member of both the BACP (British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists) and the ACC (Association of Christian Counsellors), I subscribe to their code of ethics and value the importance of the client/counsellor relationship.

Days Available: Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday in Sheffield, Walkley & Penistone areas
