About Us

“As I drove across Sheffield to my meeting, I looked up at the sky, and right there was the most perfect rainbow. I knew at that very moment that we would be called Rainbow Counselling”.

Jacky Stride, Founder

In 1998, Jacky Stride and Sue Campbell met while they were both training with Share Psychotherapy

Both of them had done other counselling training or were still in the process. Together, they decided they would like to set up a counselling service in Sheffield that would be both entirely professional and Christian. While trying to think of a name for themselves, Jacky was driving over to see Sue in Hope Valley for a planning meeting when she saw a perfect rainbow across the valley, and so Rainbow Counselling it had to be. They needed a room to use, and it so happened that the new Broomhill Methodist building had just opened, and they were looking for community groups to use it. They were welcomed with open arms, and a room was named in their honour. They printed their own leaflets, having decided to charge a sliding scale according to the client's income, and distributed them to local churches, libraries, and other locations they could think of.

Before long, clients began to arrive, and soon, they were joined by additional therapists. At some point, they employed someone to create a website. And so Rainbow was born.

Today, Rainbow Counselling continues to provide low-cost professional support for people of the same Christian faith, other religious faiths, or no religious beliefs at all.
