Art Psychotherapist
Ian Alexander
I was a children's book illustrator and also worked in publishing, as well as a support mentor for neurodivergent students. I am also a martial arts instructor, a gardener, a father and a husband.
The art psychotherapy I practice is integrative, meaning I use a variety of therapeutic models, delivered through the process of art making.
This means I can tailor my work to find a path that best suits my clients' needs.
Art psychotherapy is often expressed physically, and can also act as a somatic or embodied type of therapy, helping to bring healing to the mind from the body up.
My aim is to help all children and young people reach their full potential.
Personal Introduction
I have worked for many years with neurodiverse young adults. I have also helped clients experiencing issues such as: bereavement, childhood trauma, sexual exploitation, drug and alcohol misuse, domestic abuse, faith issues, men's issues and separation from children.
Experience
When words are not enough, art and creativity can provide another way to healing.
I offer a welcoming, calm, and grounding approach, led by the client's individuality, that provides a space to play and create through artistic processes. I work in a way that searches for the client’s strengths in order to help them thrive.
I believe it's in the act of creation that we find resilience, self-esteem, meaning and healing, and learn to move forward towards a better life. No art skills are required!
